this is just to clarify the mission of BOOM, as articulated by the founders, myself and tom conklin. BOOM is intended to be a catalyst to networking, information, exploration of new venues, exposure of existing music, and advocacy for local original music. it is NOT a company that wants to produce shows, festivals, or any other gigs, although we do want to support others who want to produce shows. the reason is simple…we don’t want to be in the position of deciding who gets work and who doesn’t. we want others to curate. we’re here to advocate!

we will be producing a few events for BOOM. one that’s in the pipeline is a music conference we hope to put together this fall. we are partnering with artswalk to bring in music to the venues. and we’re going to try partnering with the whitney for a monthly music night, although BOOM is not the producing entity. these are events that we are sponsoring in order to advance our mission. we have no budget, and as a non-profit it’s not our goal to do events to make money. we want YOU to take the initiative. we’ll help with all the resources and guidance we have to offer. so go ahead and create an event, put together a festival, or whatever – as long as it involves original music, we’re interested and will help make it happen!

Let me just add that this is a process, and it this all won’t happen overnight. It will take a lot of work, communication, support and awareness efforts from everyone involved. We all have to be here for each other. GO see each others shows. When you see an original band out there that you didn’t know existed… talk up BOOM and send them our way. Finally we need to keep the faith. It might look at times like nothing is happening but there is always something happening behind the scenes to keep the ball rolling. Stay active in the forums. Stay active on the BOOMblog. Stay active in the community!

What BOOM Does.

BOOM is dedicated to increasing the viability and visibility of original music in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. We are a non-profit company, part of Columbia Arts Team.

Our mission is to highlight, showcase, and cultivate the original music scene in Berkshire County and environs. This includes promoting local venues that feature local original music; providing access to information about the music business, songwriting, and other important subjects of interest to area musicians; and coordinating resources within the region, including local media, in order to promote local original music and encourage the patronage and support of the community at large.
