I am Alan Monasch, singer/songwriter (mostly on keyboard, but on guitar and bass as well) in Pittsfield. I still spend a lot of my time in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I lived since the mid-70s, and where my sons, daughters-in-law and ten-month-old grandson live.

I have written songs since I was 16, and now have more than three hundred, about half of which I have performed in public. I came late to performing, starting in about 2011, and am gratified to find that I now get regular bookings in SF, both solo and with my band, The Night Crew.

I have also been active in building music community in the Bay Area. My friend KC Turner has been foundationally instrumental in providing opportunities for local singer/songwriters and/or their bands to play at venues of all kinds (listening environments primarily), booking major venues, house concerts and festivals as well as hosting open mics and music community coffees. The community of singer/songwriters has gathered around these events, and I have had the privilege, honor and great fortune of meeting so many superb, committed musicians who have become my friends and collaborators in the warm, welcoming milieu that KC has created and encouraged.

I hope we are building the same sort of community here in the Berkshires. Clearly, where I come from, original music is what we mean by local live music, and many shows are sold out or very well attended. Surprisingly, musicians there are cooperative and we see much more cooperation and collaboration than raw competitiveness. This is what I hope for the music community here and what I will work to support!
