WE’VE EXTENDED OUR DEADLINE TO JULY 8TH

BERKSHIRE SONGWRITERS & MUSIC-MAKERS! STILL WANTED: ORIGINAL SONGS on ADDICTION…

Posted: Sunday, July 2, 2017 – by Tom Conklin

We recently received a few submissions, but still not as many as we would like. Therefore we have decided to once again extend the deadline of our submission period to Saturday, July 8th (11:59 pm).
Please help us to spread awareness of the opioid addiction crisis and benefits area treatment facilities.
We are looking for original songs by Berkshire songwriters on the theme of addiction for a live event in Pittsfield in October 2017. Beset by the crisis for many months and years while facing diminished funding for prevention and treatment, the region is in need of support. Event proceeds will benefit an area treatment/Recovery facility that we will announce soon. This is so important and we could really use your help.
Five (5) original songs chosen according to specified criteria (see below). Selected songs will be performed live at the event and recorded at an area studio (CD sold at the event, with proceeds benefitting treatment facilities). Writers whose songs are not used will be offered free tickets to the event and mention in the event program. In order to be able to do a CD for the event, we need a certain number of submissions, so please spread the word to your songwriting friends.
DETAILS: Songs must be…
• written by a writer living or working in the Berkshire region
• on theme(s) of addiction
• any genre
• lyric sheet + song demo required: Recording must be in .mp3 format
• simple guitar/vocal OR piano/vocal demo fine (“polished” demo not needed, but we do need to “hear” the song and singer clearly)
• submitted and received by Tuesday, July 1st, by 11:59 pm by email (attach lyrics and demo as separate attachments)
• include in the text of the email: name, local address, cell phone, and email address
• emailed to: info@boom413.com
• Writers maintain all copyrights to the original composition.
CRITERIA:
• Clear message / tone
• Original take on story, theme
• Strong craft (structure, lyrics, melody, harmonics, etc.)
• Other factors apply, such as a diversity of material and genres

BOOM looks ahead…

Posted: Thursday, March 02, 2017 – by Tom Conklin

As we look ahead to new, positive developments, we do regret to announce that The BOOM Room has closed. Despite our best efforts, we have come to the realization that the costs and permitting associated with keeping it open are no longer feasible. We will continue to focus our energies on furthering the BOOM mission of supporting original music and the makers of original music in the Berkshires.
In our continued efforts to reach out to all corners of the county, BOOM is working with several new partners to create opportunities for original music makers in the Berkshires.
We also have a new TV show on Pittsfield Community TV called ‘BOOM TV’ which features makers of original music, interviews with industry professionals, and features of interest to local musicians and fans of local original music alike. Please watch our BOOM facebook page, the BOOMblog group page, and here at our website for more information.
